My name is Karen Ironside and I am Projects Director at a charity called Transitions UK. We support a wide variety of vulnerable young people but in Bedfordshire we support care leavers, those at risk of not being in employment, education or training and those with mild to moderate learning difficulties. We are always in need of role models for these young people and find that those from the uniformed services or those that have been in them tend to have both the life experience and just the right approach to engaging with our young people. We have very close links to the RAF in other project areas (especially MK) but have not yet managed to develop close links with those in the military or veterans in the Bedfordshire area. We believe such a relationship is key. In Bedfordshire we have hubs in Luton, Bedford, Dunstable, Stotfold and a wider Central Bedfordshire hub. It would be great if we could find a way to communicate to your wider membership about the work we do and to find a way to harness your members experience to support our vulnerable young people. We also find that our volunteers benefit hugely from working with us – be that increased confidence, wider networks, sense of positive impact on a young person, etc. Would it be possible to put something in a bulletin you are sending out or better again find a way to partner together in a joint programme of mutual support? Any Veteran's interested in this should respond via our website to www.transitionsuk.org or email to support@transitionsuk.org
