FORCES ONLINE MEMBERS ON FACEBOOK

Morning everyone. When ever I chat to people about their Forces Connections and ask the question are you connected to the Armed Forces Community?, they often say no, then a few moments later they go on to tell me about uncle this, auntie that, cousin so and so, etc , etc, and the truth is most British People of a certain age range, putting the actual connects of either very close family or that have served to one side, are usually connected through family in some way or another, and they will often say I nearly joined up, etc. I am still struggling to explain the members group concept and find myself often having to repeat it. Forces Online members is a charity members group, made up of many many people, some that have served, some that are connected in some way to those that have served, some that support the Armed Forces and have in some way connected themselves through this support mechanism or purely patriotic to the often untold hardship that our servicemen and women past and present have endured, and often choosing to work in an affiliated organisation. I will not be oppressed to becoming narrow minded and believing all support for Veterans comes from within, for instance yes we could choose not to work with Civilian created Homelessness Charities, who do not have a policy of turning people away and at some point Veterans come through their systems, and just imagine a life where if organisations identified Veterans, then said no, sorry you have enough Charities and support organisations so we can’t help! Yeah fine with all these support mechanisms in place within the community, and yet we still have lots of cases of Veterans with Welfare issues suffering. I there fore urge people, who class themselves as Veterans Supporters, because they have a genuine affiliation to the group to realise Forces Online is a Veterans Support Group, with the intentions of helping and supporting both people that are currently serving in the Armed Forces/Emergency Services, and former service personnel, and the contact mechanisms Forces Online employs is substantial, in that no one needs to write in clear in a group, unless they want to, that they need help. We employ messenger, email, phone, chat (very popular on the website), physical in Somerset at the moment, connections to other Social Media Groups and Pages, etc, etc and we have one thing in mind above many others and that is sharing and working together…Social media has enough banter groups, where Veterans can happily post about their experiences and comradeship etc, the Forces Online Members Group, does have some of that but primarily we are a support group, and some have likened us to a Forces Yellow Pages, and if this is true then I an flattered because I see it more as awareness, which is still whats needed to help solve our Armed Forces Community issues, through the belief that a solid Multi-Agency is what’s needed (all of us working together with a combined knowledge and learning from our experiences), and stop thinking we are all better than each other. and our organisation can do everything… Sorry needed saying…
